Marketing Internship - Writing Intern

With nearly 300 attorneys, Barclay Damon is a leading law firm that operates from a strategic platform of offices located in the Northeastern United States and Toronto. Barclay Damon attorneys team across offices and practices to provide customized, targeted solutions grounded in industry knowledge and a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses.

The firm’s Marketing Team is currently seeking a qualified undergraduate or graduate student to serve as a paid writing intern in the firm’s Buffalo, NY office during the Fall 2021 semester. Internship hours and days are tailored to the individual intern's class schedule, and college credit is available. The applicant should be working toward a degree in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, English, or a related program. Undergraduate applicants must be entering their junior or senior year.

Writing Intern Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the marketing writer and senior marketing manager to draft, review, and finalize high-quality content for attorney bios, announcements, press releases, social media posts, award nominations, internal publications, advertisements, event invitations, proposals, survey responses, and other materials
  • Thoughtfully edit, proofread, and review materials to ensure the message content, format, and tone are consistent with firm standards and strategic objectives
  • Communicate and collaborate with attorneys and staff across the firm’s geographic platform to discuss and review relevant projects; proactively follow up to obtain requested feedback
  • Create qualitative research reports on a variety of strategic marketing topics as they relate to the legal industry
  • Utilize SmartSheet to organize projects and meet all deadlines
  • Attend and participate in weekly marketing team meetings


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to follow a style guide; preferred proficiency with the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Ability to transform complex legal and business language into clear, understandable written content
  • Critical attention to detail; strong copyediting and proofreading abilities
  • Ability to recognize and adhere to brand standards in all content
  • Willingness to contribute original ideas and suggestions in group settings
  • Ability to take in and act on constructive criticism
  • Strong time-management skills with ability to juggle multiple priorities and still meet deadlines
  • Collaborative, creative, and flexible work style
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
