Cassandra primarily concentrates her practice on labor and employment, routinely counseling and representing private employers and not-for-profit corporations in matters involving workplace discrimination, harassment, employee discipline, termination, the development of employment policies, and wage-and-hour claims.

Cassandra represents clients in federal and state court actions as well as in administrative matters involving federal and state agencies, including the US Equal Opportunity Commission, the NYS Division of Human Rights, the NYS and US Department of Labor, the NYS Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. In addition, she counsels clients on employee benefits plans, including qualified retirement plans, plan investigations, and Internal Revenue Service and USDOL correction programs.

Cassandra has also been retained by insurers to defend clients in various tort actions, including products-liability and personal-injury cases.

Representative Experience

  • Obtained numerous “no probable cause” determinations for employers in defending discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims before the NYS Division of Human Rights.
  • Obtained summary judgement dismissing age discrimination and retaliation claims brought against an employer and prevailed on appeal to the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
  • Represented and defended employers in audits by the NYS and USDOL Wage and Hour Division and received favorable settlements.
  • Defended Oneida Indian Nation Police Department officers in an excessive-force lawsuit filed in federal court. Obtained complete dismissal of the case on summary judgment after discovery.
  • Represented and defended an employer in an audit of the employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) by the USDOL Employee Benefits Security Administration.
  • Defended an inmate in a pro bono civil rights jury trial in the Northern District of New York.
  • Represented an employer in defending violations and penalties assessed by the OSHA and received a favorable settlement.
