Liz is co-chair of the Branding, Trademarks & Copyrights Practice Area. She focuses on counseling clients in all aspects of developing, designing, and implementing global trademark protection and enforcement strategies. She has significant experience prosecuting trademark applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office and matters involving the clearance, selection, use, maintenance, and enforcement of trademarks. Liz also handles trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and drafts and negotiates IP-related agreements such as licenses, assignments, and coexistence agreements.

Through an extensive network of international attorneys, Liz assists with maintaining and enforcing many well-known global brands. She leverages her extensive network of international contacts to develop and implement world-wide trademark protection strategies for her US-based clients. In addition to trademark matters, Liz also handles the preparation and filing of copyright applications before the US Copyright Office as well as due diligence on trademark matters in connection with M&A transactions.

Liz’s clients span a wide variety of industries, including automobile, consumer goods, consumer electronics, telecommunications, industrial tooling, fashion and apparel, sporting and outdoor goods, gaming, performing arts, hospitality, and food and beverage.

Representative Experience

  • Manages the global trademark portfolio for a world-wide telecommunications manufacturer.
  • Manages the global trademark portfolio of a global food manufacturer for the retail and foodservice markets.
  • Manages the global trademark portfolio for a global manufacturer of consumable products for the medical, industrial, and gaming industries.
  • Successfully negotiated a co-existence agreement on behalf of a global manufacturer of tooling for the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Handled clearing, filing, and prosecuting trademarks for a well-known manufacturer of cameras and optical goods.
  • Manages global filings on behalf of domestic clients in over 70 countries.
  • Served as outside trademark counsel to a safety equipment distributor in an asset purchase agreement in which the client purchased inventory and intellectual property worth $3.3 million from a safety equipment distribution company in Pennsylvania.
  • Served as outside trademark counsel to a purchaser in the $500,000 acquisition of a gun-care-products company, and related intellectual property rights.
  • Serves as outside trademark counsel to an international presenter of artistic programming and arts education and manages its international trademark portfolio.
  • Successfully argued against a refusal of registration citing registration covering an identical mark by distinguishing the applicant's goods and channels of trade from those covered by the cited registration.
