Barclay Damon LLP, a leading regional law firm of approximately 300 attorneys that operates from a strategic platform of offices located in Albany, Boston, Buffalo, New Haven, New York City, Rochester, Syracuse, Washington DC, and Toronto, is seeking an associate for its Trusts & Estates Practice Area in the Buffalo office.
The associate will focus primarily on estate and trust administration and litigation, with exposure to estate planning. Responsibilities will include handling all aspects of estate and trust administration, such as probate proceedings, fiduciary accountings, and Surrogate’s Court practice; representing clients in contested matters like will and trust contests, accounting disputes, and fiduciary removal proceedings; conducting legal research; and drafting pleadings, motions, discovery documents, and settlement agreements. The role will also involve assisting with the preparation of basic to intermediate estate planning documents, including wills, powers of attorney, health care proxies, and revocable trusts. Under appropriate supervision, the attorney will participate in court appearances and client meetings.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hardworking, detail-oriented attorney with strong writing and analytical skills and a genuine interest in the complexities of fiduciary matters. While prior experience in trusts and estates law is preferred, the firm is open to considering candidates with commercial litigation experience who are eager to transition into this rewarding and intellectually engaging area of law. Candidates must be licensed to practice in New York State and have strong communication skills, writing skills, and work ethic. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in trusts and estates law or commercial litigation and will be able to demonstrate their development of knowledge and experience in litigation, fiduciary matters, or estate planning.

Salary Range: $110,000 to $135,000.
This salary range represents the firm’s good-faith and reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for the position and does not include performance- or merit-based bonuses or other benefits offered by the firm. Actual compensation will depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications, skill set, and office location.
