Trusts & Estates Associate (Rochester)

Barclay Damon LLP, a leading regional law firm of nearly 300 attorneys that operates from a strategic platform of offices located in the Northeastern United States, Washington DC, and Toronto, is seeking an associate to join its Trusts & Estates Practice Area in the Rochester office. While Rochester is preferred, candidates for the Buffalo or Syracuse offices may be considered.

The attorney will support a growing trusts and estates practice representing primarily high-net-worth clients; perform transactional work, including drafting wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and operating and shareholder agreements; quantify tax impacts of estate and business succession plans; and work on estate and trust administration matters, including structuring the administration plan; supervising the preparation of accountings and estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns; and addressing procedural and disputed matters. The attorney will also be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with clients, referral sources, and other attorneys within the firm.

Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, quantitative (e.g., computational abilities and ability to work with spreadsheets), matter management, and executive functioning skills are required. A strong work ethic is also required. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in trusts and estates practice. A license to practice in Florida, an LLM in tax, experience in corporate and transactional work, or three or more years of experience will be highly regarded.
