NYMGMA eNewsletter: "FY 2025 Executive Budget Contains Surprising Consumer Protection Laws Aimed at Medical Practices"

Fran Ciardullo, special counsel, had her “FY 2025 Executive Budget Contains Surprising Consumer Protection Laws Aimed at Medical Practices” article published in the June 2024 issue of New York Beat, the monthly enewsletter from the New York Medical Group Management Association (NYMGMA). The article discusses several new consumer protection laws aimed at medical practices that are included in New York State’s Fiscal Year 2025 Executive Budget, which was signed by Governor Kathy Hochul on April 20, 2024. These laws, which take effect on October 20, 2024, focus on obtaining separate patient consent for payment, prohibiting deceptive practices regarding credit cards, and implementing restrictions on the use of credit and debit cards for medical services.

Fran wrote, “As of this writing, there is very little to offer medical practices by way of official guidance on the meaning of these new laws. It is hoped that additional information will be published as the implementation date draws near.”
