Barclay Damon Achieves 100-Percent Pro Bono Participation and Receives Statewide Honor

In 2022, all of Barclay Damon’s full-time attorneys, working with firm paralegals, provided pro bono legal services to low-income individuals in need of legal assistance and organizations serving those seeking access to justice. The firm has achieved this goal every year since 2017.

“To maintain 100-percent pro bono service for six consecutive years at a firm like ours with nearly 300 attorneys is no small accomplishment,” Mitch Katz, pro bono partner, said. “It works for us because each of Barclay Damon’s attorneys is deeply passionate about giving back to the community, and providing excellent pro bono service is at the core of Barclay Damon’s culture.”

Through its multi-award-winning pro bono program, the firm dedicated approximately 2,500 hours of time valued at nearly $850,000 to pro bono efforts in 2022, with attorneys actively participating in firm-sponsored family court clinics, litigating civil rights violations, drafting wills for veterans, assisting with clemency applications, and providing online legal aid through initiatives such as the American Bar Association’s Free Legal Answers program. The firm’s investment in communities across its office platform supported legal matters involving many critical issues, including immigration, housing, women’s rights, prisoners’ rights, community building, and economic development, among others.

“Social inequities, violence, inflation, the pandemic, and other aspects of our modern world present serious, often heart-wrenching challenges to countless members of our communities who aren’t in a position to afford the representation they need, and I’m proud that all of our attorneys step up to help meet the challenge,” Connie Cahill, managing partner, said. “We’re honored to give of our time and talent where needed, and we plan to continue achieving 100-percent participation for many years to come.”

Barclay Damon is proud of the honors and accolades its pro bono program receives, including most recently being honored as an Empire State Counsel® honoree by the New York State Bar Association at its annual Justice for All award ceremony, held January 19. This marks the sixth consecutive year Barclay Damon has received this award.
