Barclay Damon Announces Changes to Firm's Leadership Team and Formation of New Committee

September 26, 2023—Barclay Damon announces the following changes to the firm’s leadership team:

  • Courtney Merriman, a member of the Real Estate and Financial Institutions & Lending Practice Areas, will serve as Financial Services Practice Group leader. She takes over the role from Heather Sunser.
  • Brad Gallagher, a member of the Health Care Controversies Team and Commercial Litigation and White Collar & Government Investigations Practice Areas, will serve as co-leader of the Health Care Controversies Team.
  • David Burch, a member of the firm’s Project Development, Commercial Litigation, and White Collar & Government Investigations Practice Areas and Energy Team, will serve as co-chair of the White Collar & Government Investigations Practice Area.
  • Mike Oropallo, former co-chair of the Trademarks, Copyrights & Licensing Practice Area, will now serve as the practice area’s chair.
  • Dan French, co-chair of the White Collar & Government Investigations Practice Area and member of the Higher Education Team, will serve as co-leader of the Higher Education Team.

The firm also announces the formation of an AI Ad Hoc Committee, which will advise Barclay Damon’s Management Committee on the impact artificial intelligence (AI) is already having and will have on the practice of law. This includes evaluating AI tools, educating attorneys on AI, and working with the firm’s practice group leaders to responsibly and ethically implement AI tools into their teams. Of paramount concern will be to implement AI tools in a way that ensures the protection of client confidential information and allows the firm to continue to deliver the highest quality legal services. The committee will be chaired by Doug Nash, Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Area chair and co-leader of the Technology, Medical Devices, Communications & Network Technology, and Emerging Technologies Teams.

In addition to these changes, Ari Goldberg, a member of the Land Use & Zoning, Project Development, and Real Estate Practice Areas, will join the firm’s Associate Integration Committee.

Cahill, managing partner, said, “We congratulate the attorneys and administrative team on their new appointments and thank those stepping down for their service. We’re confident these changes in leadership will ensure the firm’s continued success—not only in terms of our capacity to provide excellent client service but also to provide our attorneys and staff with a progressive, diverse, and equitable work environment.”
