Barclay Damon Expands Boston IP Team With Accomplished Patent Strategist Michele Baillie

Barclay Damon announces that Michele Baillie has joined the firm has a partner in its Patents & Prosecution; Trademarks, Copyrights & Licensing; and Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Areas in the firm’s Boston office.

Baillie is a seasoned patent and trademark prosecution attorney with a background in electrical engineering and nearly three decades of experience helping innovators and companies secure intellectual property protection in the United States and worldwide. She counsels clients in software, artificial intelligence, wireless technology, climate tech, and health tech, guiding them through every stage of patent and trademark procurement—from identifying what is protectable to filing and prosecuting applications that stand up to scrutiny.

“Barclay Damon’s collaborative IP team and regional platform give me the resources to serve clients at every stage, from a first invention to a global portfolio,” said Baillie. “I’m excited to join a firm that shares my focus on aligning IP strategy with clients’ business goals.”

Over the course of her career, Baillie has secured hundreds of patents for Fortune 500 companies in cloud computing, wireless communications, data security and authentication, and AI and automation. She built and managed a portfolio of more than 100 patents for a telecommunications company that generated licensing revenue and supported successful acquisitions, and she has developed patent and trademark portfolios and IP strategies for health tech and climate tech innovators. She also secures and manages IP rights abroad, including in Europe, Canada, Japan, India, and China, and has counseled startups in Boston and Cambridge accelerators on building strategic IP positions.

Baillie joins Barclay Damon from a Boston-based intellectual property firm, where she was senior counsel. She previously founded and led her own Massachusetts patent practice for nearly 14 years and, earlier in her career, was a partner at a patent firm in Palo Alto, California.

“Michele pairs an engineer’s technical depth with decades of hands-on prosecution experience in software, AI, wireless, and emerging technologies, which makes her a tremendous addition to our IP team,” said Denis Sullivan, co-leader of Barclay Damon’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. “Her ability to build portfolios that drive licensing, acquisitions, and growth will be a real asset to our clients.”

“Boston is one of the country’s leading innovation economies, and for the companies driving it, intellectual property is often their most valuable asset,” said Lizz Acee, managing director of Barclay Damon’s major market offices. “Since expanding our Boston office earlier this year, we’ve been focused on adding talent that meets the needs of this market. Michele’s technical depth and deep roots in Boston’s legal and startup communities make her exactly that kind of addition.”
