Barclay Damon Honored by Volunteer Lawyers Project for Pro Bono Work

BUFFALO, NY "” Barclay Damon, LLP has been awarded a 2015 Law Firm Commitment Award by the Erie County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project.

The award was presented at VLP's Eighth Annual Champions for Justice Bash, held November 20, at the Hotel Lafayette. Lydia H. Beebe and Sarah E. Fenster, both Barclay Damon attorneys, accepted the award on behalf of the firm. In addition, the firm was recognized as one of VLP's law firm partners as a result of Barclay Damon's ongoing financial support for the organization.

Robert P. Heary, the leader of Barclay Damon's Business Services Practice Group and a member of VLP's board of directors, said, "Our attorneys and staff are honored to receive this prestigious award. More importantly, we are grateful have the opportunity to work with VLP's dedicated staff and volunteers to provide support for members of our community in need of assistance. Our work with VLP is part of our firm's ongoing commitment to give back to the communities where we live and do business, and we are pleased to partner with others who share this philosophy."

VLP selected Barclay Damon as a recipient for the Law Firm Commitment Award as a result of the firm's support of Buffalo's Say Yes to Education program. Mr. Heary has served on the Say Yes Legal Taskforce since its inception, and the firm was an inaugural sponsor of the Say Yes Legal Clinics, which provide assistance to families with children enrolled in the Buffalo Public School District. Ms. Beebe and Ms. Fenster are volunteer attorneys for the clinics.

In addition to Say Yes, Barclay Damon, through referrals from VLP, provides representation to low-income individuals on matters that involve immigration, tax, guardianship, and personal injury defense. Through VLP's Pro Se Assistance program, the firm provides assistance to pro se litigants in the federal district court. The firm also provides monthly coverage for VLP's Attorney of the Morning program, which offers legal representation to low-income individuals facing eviction proceedings.

VLP is a not-for-profit corporation that provides free civil legal services to low-income individuals and small not-for-profit groups in Erie County. VLP relies on its own staff and volunteer lawyers to represent clients.

Barclay Damon is a full-service, 275-attorney law firm with offices throughout the major cities of New York State and in Toronto, Boston, Washington DC, and Newark. Barclay Damon provides comprehensive legal and business counsel to a diverse client base in 33 practice areas.
