Brower Named to U.S. Energy Security Council

Syracuse, New York - December 9, 2013 - Michael Brower, Senior Federal Policy Director at Mosaic Federal Affairs, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hiscock & Barclay, LLP, has been named to the United States Energy Security Council.

The Energy Security Council's goal is to end the nation's dependence on oil for transportation. Its most recent report, "Fuel Choice for American Prosperity," lays out recommendations for making alternative fuels available to motorists.

The 32 members of the Council include former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, former Secretary of State George P. Shultz, former Sen. Gary Hart, businessman T. Boone Pickens and retired general and former presidential candidate Wesley Clark.

Brower, a former Naval aviator who flew 43 carrier-based combat sorties during the first Iraqi War, has long been engaged in energy policy matters and helped draft the first-ever Energy Title (IX) in the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002, as well as the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the Energy Infrastructure Act of 2007 and the Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.

Since August he has served as interim head of the American Council On Renewable Energy, in addition to his duties at Mosaic.

"It is a high honor to find myself invited to join these leaders in this important mission," Brower said. "Our nation's security, economic vitality and environmental future depends on how we direct and control our energy future and that means we must bring innovative, alternative types of energy to market."

"This is a well-deserved honor for a man who has developed a level of expertise that has proven effective for Mosaic's clients as well as for clients of Hiscock & Barclay," said John P. Langan, Managing Partner of Hiscock & Barclay.

"Michael's appointment to the Energy Security Council underscores his expertise and integrity in the renewable energy arena and will complement the work done for the firm's energy clients." said Richard R. Capozza, Chair of Hiscock & Barclay's Energy Practice Area.

Hiscock & Barclay, LLP, listed as a "Top 250 Firm" by The National Law Journal, is a full-service, 200-attorney law firm, with offices throughout the major cities of New York State, as well as in Boston, Washington, Newark, N.J. and Toronto, providing comprehensive legal and business counsel to a diverse client base in 30 practice areas.
