Donald M. Mawhinney Honored by County Legislator Patrick M. Kilmartin

SYRACUSE, NY "” September 13, 2016 "” Barclay Damon, LLP is pleased to announce that Donald M. Mawhinney, Jr. has been honored with a Gold Seal resolution for his years of service to Onondaga County by Legislator Patrick M. Kilmartin.

Mr. Mawhinney was recognized in July for his service to his community, his county, his community college and his country. He has served the public in several capacities including his military service in the United States Army from 1944-1950, becoming a partner with Hiscock & Barclay, LLP (now Barclay Damon, LLP) in 1958, and serving as a founding member of the Onondaga Community College Board of Trustees in 1961, acting as chair, vice-chair, and secretary in his 55 years of service.

In addition Mr. Mawhinney has also served the community as former president and current member of the Association of Boards of Trustees of Community Colleges in the State of New York; OCC Children's Learning Center Director from 1988-2007; Americanization League, Director 1960-present; appointed by the New York State Governor to the Erie Canal Park Study Commission; Elder 1961-present at Park Central Presbyterian Church and former Director and President of Onondaga County Young Republican Club.

In June, Mr. Mawhinney attended his final meeting as a member of Onondaga Community College's Board of Trustees at which he was honored with Trustee Emeritus status. During that meeting a resolution was passed in Mawhinney's honor saluting his extraordinary service to the College and its students. He joined the board of trustees one year prior to classes starting in the College's Midtown Plaza location and has served for over 55 years. He is the longest serving college trustee in the United States and was recognized for this distinction in 2006 when Onondaga Community College named an academic building in his honor.
