Hiscock & Barclay Attorney Maureen Helmer Appointed to Center for Internet Security Board

Hiscock & Barclay Partner Maureen O. Helmer has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Center for Internet Security. The Center is a not-for-profit organization focused on enhancing the cyber security readiness and response of public and private sector entities. Already confirmed for a three-year term, Helmer will commence her duties at the April 26th board meeting.

"As The Center for Internet Security continues to grow and assist organizations in preventing and protecting against cyber threats, it is important that we have solid leadership to help guide us. Maureen's rich background in public and private sector regulatory and security issues will be valuable assets to our board, " said John Gillian, CIS Board Chairman.

Helmer is a Partner in the Firm's Albany office and Chair of the Firm's Regulatory Practice Area. She has an expansive career touching on a broad range of issues related to New York energy and telecommunications law. Helmer led the New York State Public Service Commission during a time of sweeping change in the telecommunications and energy industries. In addition to her work during the restructuring of these industries, Helmer's involvement in critical infrastructure issues in the wake of September 11th has led to an ongoing involvement for her in security and cybersecurity issues on a national basis.

"We are pleased to have Maureen join our board. Her considerable career contributions to fields such as telecommunications, energy, and cybersecurity demonstrate her expertise and commitment. We look forward to her input and guidance as we shape the future of CIS," said William Pelgrin, CIS President and CEO.
