Hiscock & Barclay Attorneys Recognized by Onondaga County Bar Association for Pro Bono Work

The Onondaga County Bar Association (OCBA) recognized Hiscock & Barclay, LLP Partner Jon Devendorf and Of Counsel Ellen Kimatian Eagen for their pro bono efforts at the "No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom" luncheon held at the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse on May 3, 2012 in celebration of Law Day.

The OCBA honored Devendorf with the Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award for representing a couple, who could not afford counsel otherwise, in a complicated land contract case during the course of which the family was displaced from their home by a suspicious fire. Partnering with retired attorney Thomas Gilhooley, a successful conclusion was brought to the case through a settlement for the couple. 

Ellen Kimatian Eagen, of Counsel at Hiscock & Barclay, was honored as a nominee for the New York State Bar Association's (NYSBA) Young Lawyer Award. She received an unanimous jury verdict in a case representing a mother and two children wrongly evicted, The mother was awarded considerable damages including punitive and the court awarded attorney fees. Eagen was also selected for recognition at the NYSBA President's Pro Bono Service Awards on May 1, 2012 at the State Bar Center in Albany, NY.

Devendorf resides in the firm's Syracuse office and handles a wide array of complex commercial and real estate litigation. He brings strategic guidance, effective solutions and seasoned advocacy to his clients.

Eagen is resident in the Syracuse office and focuses her practice on commercial litigation. She devotes a large portion of her practice to pro bono work focusing on issues relating to education.
