Hiscock & Barclay Welcomes New Of Counsel Stephen H. Oleskey

Boston, Massachusetts - March 14, 2014 - Hiscock & Barclay, LLP announces that Stephen H. Oleskey has joined the firm's Boston office as Of Counsel. Oleskey is a member of the firm's Commercial Litigation and Real Property Tax & Condemnation Practice Areas. Oleskey, who previously practiced at WilmerHale for over 40 years, has represented a wide array of corporations, partnerships, joint ventures and individuals in trials, arbitrations and mediations in Massachusetts state and federal courts. He has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court and various federal courts of appeal, as well as the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, the Massachusetts Appeals Court and the New Hampshire and Maine Supreme Courts.

In 2007, Oleskey received the Boston Bar Association's President's Award as well as the Pro Bono Publico Award by the American Bar Association for his representation of pro bono clients detained at Guantanamo Bay. He was also featured in a 2008 article in TIME Magazine for his work at Guantanamo Bay.

In 1987 and 1988, Oleskey served as Massachusetts Deputy Attorney General and Chief of the Public Protection Bureau. While serving in that role, he supervised 140 attorneys, investigators, paralegals and support personnel in the Antitrust, Civil Rights, Consumer Protection, Environmental Protection, Insurance, Public Charities, Utilities, Nuclear Safety and Special Litigation (asbestos removal claims) Divisions. He was responsible for all civil litigation and enforcement proceedings in the Bureau.

Oleskey graduated magna cum laude from Wesleyan University in 1964 and received his law degree from New York University School of Law in 1968, where he was named an Arthur T. Vanderbilt Scholar. He is a member of the American, Boston, New Hampshire and New York Bar Associations.
