Hiscock & Barclay's Sheila Gaddis Receives National Pro Bono Award

Hiscock & Barclay, LLP Partner Sheila A. Gaddis is the recipient of the National Association of Pro Bono Professionals' 2012 Tanya Neiman Pro Bono Professional of the Year Award. Gaddis received the award on May 18, 2012 at the annual Equal Justice Conference, sponsored by the American Bar Association and the National Legal Aid and Defenders Association, in Jacksonville, Florida in recognition of her dedication to public service and equal access to justice.

Gaddis joined the Rochester office of Hiscock & Barclay in 2007, where she is a member of the Health Care & Human Services and Corporate Law Practice Areas. Gaddis leads the firm's Diversity & Inclusion and Pro Bono initiatives, and is an active supporter of the firm's Women's Forum.

"Sheila's commitment to equal access to justice and public service has been a hallmark of her distinguished career," said Hiscock & Barclay Managing Partner John P. Langan. "We are fortunate to have her leading our firm's diversity and pro bono programs and are proud to call her our Partner."

In addition to her work with the firm, Gaddis has also served for the past 10 years as Executive Director of the non-profit Volunteer Legal Services Program (VLSP), which provides civil legal services to low income individuals in Monroe County – overseeing a panel of approximately 1,500 volunteers. As an extension of her public service, Gaddis also served as an elected Councilor to the Town of Brighton from 2007-2011. Prior to her move to Rochester in 2002, Gaddis was the Chief Executive Offer and Executive Director of the Alaska Youth and Parent Foundation in Anchorage, Alaska for twenty years.
