John Gutkoski Joins Hiscock & Barclay as Partner in Boston as Firm Continues to Expand Its Intellectual Property Practice

Boston, Massachusetts - November 14, 2013 - John T. Gutkoski has joined Hiscock & Barclay, LLP as a Partner in the firm's Boston Office and IP Litigation group. A patent and intellectual property trial lawyer with a national practice, Gutkoski joins several of his former WilmerHale colleagues at Hiscock & Barclay, including Stephen H. Oleskey, a 40-year litigation veteran in Boston, who joined the firm in February.

Gutkoski's expansive trial practice has included serving as lead counsel for clients in matters spanning life sciences, technology, and financial services. He has tried cases involving the use of lasers to treat skin conditions and stimulate collagen production, the use of computer networks among banking institutions to process and store check images, and the design of high-speed digital converter semiconductors, among others.

"IP Litigation continues to be a rapidly growing practice for our firm. John's patent trial experience significantly deepens the capabilities and reach of our group," explained Douglas J. Nash, national Chair of IP Litigation for the firm.

Gutkoski has been repeatedly named among the World's Leading Patent Practitioners for Patent Litigation by IAM Patent 1000, as a Massachusetts "Super Lawyer," and as a Local Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation. Gutkoski brings to six the number of intellectual property attorneys with large-firm resumes and trial experience that Hiscock & Barclay has added in the past year, including the recent addition of Partner Jason S. Nardiello with dual residence in the firm's New York and Syracuse offices.

"We are very excited to have John join us here in Boston. His clients and connections in the IP community and beyond will help lead our continued growth in 2014 and the coming years," said Brian E. Whiteley, a founding partner of the Boston Office and Co-Chair of the firm's Commercial Litigation Practice Area.

A graduate of Boston University and New York University School of Law, Gutkoski previously served as the Chairman of Foley & Lardner, LLP's Intellectual Property Practice in Boston and most recently was a partner with Holland & Knight, LLP.

Hiscock & Barclay, LLP, listed as a "Top 250 Firm" by The National Law Journal, is a full-service, 200-attorney law firm, with offices throughout the major cities of New York State, as well as in Boston, Washington, Newark, N.J. and Toronto, providing comprehensive legal and business counsel to a diverse client base in 30 practice areas.
