Leading Bankruptcy Law Firm Menter, Rudin & Trivelpiece Combines With Barclay Damon

July 17, 2018"”Barclay Damon LLP today announced its combination with Menter, Rudin & Trivelpiece, P.C., a firm widely known for its longstanding leadership in commercial bankruptcy cases.

Effective August 1, 2018, the 14 attorneys of the Syracuse-based Menter firm and its paralegals and staff will join Barclay Damon, which will continue to be the name of the combined firm.

Over its 65-year history, Menter has emerged as the leading regional law firm in the areas of bankruptcy, creditor rights, financial restructuring, and distressed asset and insolvency counseling. Also known for providing sophisticated transactional and litigation advice, Menter brings decades of experience in business litigation, commercial lending, environmental law, real property tax, construction, and employment law.

Barclay Damon believes Menter's experience in bankruptcy law in particular and the firm's proven ability to marshal the talents of other professionals in support of complex commercial bankruptcy scenarios will have significant, long-term value for the firm's growing client base and key areas of industry focus, including the ever-changing energy and health care industries as well as the retail and shopping center developer space. Menter's president and CEO, Jeffrey A. Dove, will help lead Barclay Damon's substantially expanded Restructuring, Bankruptcy & Creditors' Rights Practice Area as a new co-chair of the team.

"The combination of Menter with Barclay Damon is exciting news, adding depth and experience to the services offered to clients of both firms," said John P. Langan, Barclay Damon's managing partner. "With Menter's proven track record and dominant position in the area of bankruptcy, insolvency, and distressed asset counseling, we see this expansion as adding real value to the legal services we offer."

"We could not be more excited about this move," said Dove. "To join a firm of Barclay Damon's caliber and geographic reach that has excellent attorneys and well-established practices is the optimal next step for us. Becoming part of a firm with a much broader range of services in such areas as tax, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, public finance, health care, labor and employment, and others will be invaluable to the clients we serve."

Barclay Damon was formed in 2015 with the combination of Hiscock & Barclay and the Buffalo-based firm Damon Morey. Last year, Barclay Damon added the Syracuse-based energy-environmental powerhouse Gilberti, Stinziano, Heintz & Smith, P.C. to its platform. Barclay Damon has 12 offices throughout New York State and in Boston, Newark, Toronto, and Washington DC. Menter brings a new, small, and vibrant North Country office to the Barclay Damon platform. At nearly 300 lawyers, Barclay Damon is a leading regional firm.

Integration of Menter's attorneys and staff will begin at the effective date of the combination to ensure seamless services continue to be offered to clients of both firms. In the coming months, the attorneys and staff of Menter will move to Barclay Damon Tower in downtown Syracuse, and the firm will shift a number of administrative groups and functions to Menter's former office space in Franklin Square.

"One of our competitive advantages is knowing how to attract, onboard, and integrate talent, developed from a robust and successful 20-year lateral attorney program," Langan said. "It has fueled our growth from 50 lawyers to nearly 300 lawyers and is embedded in a culture of inclusion and change. That culture has benefited the firm and, more important, it has benefited our clients and the communities where we practice."
