Maureen Helmer Honored by the Center for Women at SUNY Albany's Rockefeller College

June 7, 2018—Barclay Damon announces Regulatory Practice Area co-chair Maureen Helmer was named to the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society's "2018 40 Change Makers List." The center is part of SUNY Albany's Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy.

The Change Makers Award was given to 32 women and eight organizations for "leading by example and making our world a positive and affirming place."

Helmer's accomplishments include serving as former New York State Public Service Commission chair and president and founding board member of New York State Women in Communications and Energy. She also served on the board of the Center for Internet Security.

"It is great to see Maureen honored by the university where she cultivated her deep passion for public service, which serves as a cornerstone in her endeavors both in and out of the firm," Cornelia (Connie) Cahill, the firm's deputy managing partner, said. "She is an incredible asset in our Regulatory and Energy Practice Areas and in the Albany community, utilizing her significant depth of experience to deliver real-world solutions in a variety of domestic matters."

"Maureen has proven herself as a dedicated attorney and industry leader who has set the bar high with her outstanding service to our state government and, for the past decade, to Barclay Damon clients," the firm's managing partner, John Langan, said. "It's a huge firm advantage having so many accomplished women attorneys like Maureen, Connie, and our recently elected Albany managing director and management committee member, Melissa Zambri, as resources available in one office."

Helmer was honored during the organization's Celebrating the Year of the Woman and 40 Years of the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society Gala at the New York State Museum. The Center "seeks to deepen and broaden political access and economic opportunities for women" through its Women & Leadership, Economic Security, and Health & Gender Based Disparities Programs.
