Dash's Wins Final Approval for Hertel Market

After months of effort and review, Joe Dash got his last big approval Monday to build a new store on Hertel Avenue.

The Buffalo Planning Board approved his request to consolidate nine parcels into one, located at 1764 Hertel Ave., to enable construction of the planned new supermarket. The sites include a single-family home, a commercial building, a chiropractor's office and the old store, which takes up five lots.

The action follows what even Dash's attorney, Corey Auerbach of Barclay Damon, said was a surprisingly easy decision last week by another city agency to allow the company to take down remaining structures on the properties. "To my shock and delight, we even obtained an approval from the Preservation Board for demolition," Auerbach said.
