Buster’s interest in the field began during his undergraduate studies at the College of the Holy Cross, where he researched the Civil Rights Act of 1991 and interviewed civil rights leader John Lewis. At Syracuse University College of Law, Buster served as an executive editor of the Syracuse Law Review and contributed to The Labor Lawyer, experiences that helped him develop the research, writing, and analytical skills that have defined his career.
After graduating, Buster clerked for Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. in the US District Court for the Northern District of New York, gaining insight into judicial decision-making and litigation strategy. He joined Barclay Damon in 2014 and was named leader of the firm’s Higher Education Team in 2016, now serving as co-leader.
Buster’s practice focuses on advising employers on workplace issues and representing clients in litigation and investigations before agencies, such as the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and in state and federal courts. He emphasized the importance of strong research, writing, and statutory analysis skills, noting that intellectual rigor and curiosity have remained central to his work throughout his career.
