Deb Peckham, co-chair of Barclay Damon’s Trademarks, Copyrights & Licensing Practice Area, has received an AI in IP Practice Certificate: Skills, Tools, and Strategy from the International Trademark Association (INTA).
The certificate is part of INTA’s wider AI education effort. It trains intellectual property professionals to use artificial intelligence responsibly so they can work more efficiently and make better decisions. INTA offered it for the first time this year as a live, virtual program taught by experts. Each session combined a presentation, discussion and practical exercises. Participants came from law firms, corporations, government offices, and service providers around the world.
The program covered:
- AI fundamentals and how AI is changing the IP field
- Prompting techniques and using AI in daily IP work, including research, drafting, analysis and client communication
- Using AI to support strategy, such as portfolio management and legal analysis
- How IP offices are building AI into examination and operations
- Using AI responsibly, including managing risk, protecting confidentiality and meeting professional obligations
To earn the certificate, participants had to attend the required live sessions, including mandatory sessions on prompting and AI in daily IP work, and pass an assessment.
