Lizz Acee and John Langan Featured in Hartford Business Journal Article About CT Expansion and Growth of IP Law

Lizz Acee, managing director of major markets, and John Langan, chair, were featured in the Hartford Business Journal article “Barclay Damon’s CT Expansion Reflects Growth of Intellectual Property Law Sector.” The article explores the explosive growth of the IP law sector in the United States and how it’s driving law firms to expand, noting Barclay Damon’s recent addition of a five-member IP team based in New Haven, Connecticut.

Growth in the intellectual property space has been a strategic focus of the firm in recent years, especially in major market cities. About Barclay Damon’s growth in this area, Lizz said, “IP is a really important practice at the firm and a well-established practice, and it was very important to us that we continue to establish that practice across the platform.”

The new IP team members in New Haven brought with them clients in the higher education space, who require highly knowledgeable IP attorneys. Similarly, New Haven is a hub for industries like bioscience and bioengineering.

Firms that provide IP legal services in major market cities are “pricing themselves out,” said John, noting that smaller, midsize firms can provide these services at a lower cost.
