Renato Smith Receives Certified Information Privacy Professional Credential

Renato Smith, co-chair of Barclay Damon’s Data Security & Technology Practice Area, has received the Certified Information Privacy Professional/US (CIPP/US) credential from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). CIPP/US certified privacy professionals help organizations around the world bolster compliance and risk mitigation practices. Focused in the areas of data privacy, cybersecurity, intellectual property, and commercial transactions, Renato assists clients with privacy matters, cybersecurity policies and programs, commercial contracts, licensing, complex business transactions, and dispute resolution, among other areas at the intersection of technology and law.

The CIPP/US demonstrates a strong foundation in US private-sector privacy laws and regulations and understanding of the legal requirements for the responsible transfer of sensitive personal data to and from the United States, the European Union, and other jurisdictions. Renato joins the ranks of professionals worldwide who currently hold the CIPP/US certification.

The IAPP, the first organization to publicly establish standards in professional education and testing for privacy and data protection, is a not-for-profit association whose mission is to define, promote, and improve the privacy profession globally.
