Accomplished Energy, Project Development, and Property Tax Attorney, Matt Moses, Rejoins Barclay Damon

January 10, 2023—Barclay Damon announces Matt Moses has rejoined the firm. Moses, a leading energy, project development, and property tax attorney noted for his significant work on large, capital-intensive projects, was previously a partner at Barclay Damon (f/k/a Hiscock & Barclay) and Nixon Peabody. Most recently, Moses was co-founding partner of the boutique energy law firm Swartz Moses PLLC, where he practiced for the past 12 years.

Moses focuses his practice on project development and management of state and local taxes for large energy and industrial facilities. He represents developers and owners of a wide range of projects in the energy arena, including utility-scale renewable projects, linear energy infrastructure projects, large-scale energy storage projects, and nuclear power plants, to name a few. Moses also advises owners, lenders, and investors on M&A transactions, financings, and equity investments involving large energy and industrial projects.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to Barclay Damon and am looking forward to further expanding my work in the energy space, taking my practice from a regional to a national focus. The broad array of services and national reach of the firm’s energy practice will benefit clients who I hope will follow me to Barclay Damon. I’m also hopeful that my background can help serve existing firm clients and attract new ones,” Moses said. “Clients having access to literally hundreds of extremely talented professionals throughout the firm’s platform is pretty exciting.”

Moses added, “Barclay Damon has experience in all aspects of the energy industry and is known for its business acumen and results-oriented approach—a vision and mindset we share. Developing strategic business solutions that can be applied to each client’s unique circumstances is how I help them achieve the best results. Now I’ll be able to team with my colleagues to apply our extensive energy industry knowledge to deliver even better outcomes for our collective clients.”

Connie Cahill, Barclay Damon’s managing partner, said, “To have an attorney like Matt, who is well known and respected in the energy industry, rejoin the firm is astounding. Our growing Energy Team, led by Rick Capozza, places a strong emphasis on providing top-tier service and responsiveness to clients nationwide. Our clients will undoubtedly benefit from Matt’s vast experience.”

Brenda Colella, Regulatory Practice Group leader, said, “Barclay Damon’s Regulatory Practice Group has an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable bench of attorneys. Matt’s background complements our already strong group and offers even more know-how to new and existing clients alike, particularly those operating in the complex energy industry.”

Moses added, “This firm has grown strategically in some key areas in the energy arena, such as M&A, siting and permitting, and real property tax, both in terms of the scope of services offered and geographic reach. I’m looking forward to teaming up with my colleagues to help the firm grow its energy client base. This new venture will allow me to continue providing my clients with the level of attention and care they’re accustomed to—and offer them expanded capabilities.”

Barclay Damon attorneys team across offices and practices to provide customized, targeted solutions grounded in industry knowledge and a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses.
