Seasoned private practice and in-house attorney brings over 25 years of liability litigation and complex coverage experience.
Barclay Damon announces that Al D’Isernia has joined the firm as a partner in its Torts & Products Liability Defense and Insurance Coverage & Regulation Practice Areas in the firm’s New York City office.
D’Isernia represents insurers, reinsurers, and commercial clients in complex litigation and arbitration in state and federal courts, including coverage and extra-contractual disputes involving casualty and property claims, bad faith, latent injury, advertising injury, professional liability, and workers’ compensation. He also handles direct actions involving construction, products liability, employment, intellectual property, and privacy, and has extensive trial and appellate experience.
Prior to joining Barclay Damon, D’Isernia served as senior counsel with QBE North America, where he managed complex commercial litigation and arbitration involving the company’s North American insurers, collaborated with the executive leadership team on risk management strategy, and advised and trained claims and underwriting professionals across all lines of business. Before moving in-house, D’Isernia spent more than two decades at a boutique insurance coverage and litigation firm in New York City, where he represented insurers, reinsurers, contractors, architects, engineers, and other commercial entities.
“New York City is where many of the country’s largest insurers, reinsurers, and brokers make their decisions, and where many of the most significant coverage and liability disputes are litigated,” said Tom Cronmiller, Torts & Insurance Practice Group leader. “Al’s trial and appellate record, paired with his experience inside a major insurer, deepens our ability to handle complex matters for clients in the city and across the New York–New Jersey region.”
“The experience I gained from serving as an in-house attorney was invaluable, and I’m looking forward to putting that perspective to work for the firm’s clients,” said D’Isernia. “Barclay Damon’s depth in insurance and torts, continued growth in the New York City market, and national reach made it the right place to do that.”
“Al’s arrival is another milestone in the growth of our major-market offices and is further evidence that seasoned litigators see Barclay Damon as the place to take their practices to the next level,” said Lizz Acee, managing director of Barclay Damon’s major market offices. D’Isernia is the fifth addition to Barclay Damon’s New York City office since October 2025, and his arrival comes on the heels of the firm’s July 2025 announcement that it relocated its New York City office within Rockefeller Center to a significantly expanded space. The New York City office now has six resident attorneys whose practices focus on torts and insurance matters. Acee continued, “Al adds significant depth to our coverage and products liability capabilities in New York City, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the team.”
