Ransomware Attacks Major Health Care Information Technology Company

The health care information technology giant Allscripts reported a ransomware attack late last week. According to reports, the attack disrupted Allscripts’s electronic health record platform and certain e-prescribing systems. Of course, for health care providers both big and small, the outage has inhibited their ability to operate. Attacks such as these have become more common and continue to place health care providers at a standstill, preventing them from delivering effective care.

If you are in need of assistance related to a ransomware attack or would like to learn about preventive strategies related to protecting health care information, please do not hesitate to reach out to Melissa Zambri, co-chair of Barclay Damon’s Health Care & Human Services Practice Area and a member of the firm’s cybersecurity, privacy, and data protection team, at 518.429.4229 or mzambri@barclaydamon.com, or Eric Dyer, an associate in the Health Care & Human Services Practice Area, at 518.429.4246 or edyer@barclaydamon.com.
