The news that Cat Scott has joined Barclay Damon’s Boston office as a partner in the firm’s Labor & Employment and Commercial Litigation & Complex Trials Practice Areas was covered by Law.com in “Appellate Advocate Joins Barclay Damon’s Growing Boston Labor and Employment Practice” and in Law360’s Massachusetts newsletter in “Hub Hires: Mintz, Foley Hoag, Barclay Damon.”
Cat told Law.com that Barclay Damon’s commitment to growing its Boston labor and employment group was a decisive factor in her move. “I felt like it would be a natural fit for the work I do and the clients I service,” she said. “Because of this platform, I can now service my labor and employment clients wherever their business takes them, whether that’s single-market, multi-state, or national.” Cat added that her practice has seen non-stop growth since the pandemic, fueled by new state paid family and medical leave laws and ongoing disability and reasonable accommodation issues.
Cat is a former three-year board member of the Massachusetts Defense Lawyers Association, and she represented the organization as amicus in precedent-setting Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court cases involving restrictive covenants and independent contractor classification. “I wanted to bring more awareness especially to labor and employment cases that are being argued at the appellate courts because we have an active and strong plaintiff’s bar here in the state through the Massachusetts Employment Lawyers Association,” she told Law.com. “[T]here really is no similar group for management-side labor and employment lawyers in the state.”
Law360 also covered Cat’s arrival at Barclay Damon, citing the firm’s press release.
